Outage - Datacenter Fiber Connection to AMS Mittwoch 29th September 2021 11:27:00

On 29.09.2021 at 11:27 (CEST) a failure of the fiber optic line to Amsterdam (AMS), NIKHEF Datacenter was detected. All connections via this line were interrupted for a short time until an automatic rerouting via Frankfurt (FRA) took place.

The data center is currently investigating on this issue. There is no impact currently, the traffic is routed via Frankfurt transparently.

The reason for the failure was a fiber cut near Maastricht. After a lengthy investigation and initial problems identifying the exact location, splicing work was carried out after broking up the street to repair the fiber optic cable.

Since 00:41 (CEST) the problem has been solved and the fiber transport line between Amsterdam and Eygelshoven is online again. Traffic is flowing over the usual paths again.

However, there was no impact due to the failure of this fiber transport line. The traffic was transparently routed completely via Frankfurt.
